Pediatric Spine Surgery

Dr. Sanatan Satapathy

Vertebrae, the building blocks of the spine, are connected by ligaments and muscles. To prevent the vertebrae from rubbing against one another, there are soft discs between each vertebra. The vertebral column is made up of each of these individually. There are names for every section of the spine. The lumbar spine is located in the lower back, while the thoracic spine is located in the chest region. The vertebrae are then given numbers so that when there is a problem, it can be treated properly.

Some spinal abnormalities can be detected either before or after birth. Ultrasounds during pregnancy are excellent at spotting issues. However, some diseases, including idiopathic scoliosis, manifest themselves as a kid grows. Adolescent growth spurts are when idiopathic scoliosis first manifests in children. Congenital issues can be discovered before or after birth, while some don't manifest themselves until much later. If your family has a history of spinal problems or if your kid exhibits any of the symptoms listed below, you should consult a doctor.
